this work celebrates a self generated myth about a japanese potter, mr. yamaguchi, who left japan to move to mississippi in search of a legendary "black clay body" found only in the southern states of north america. yamaguch built a home, married and raised a family, thereby creating a new tradition of soul food inspired japanese utensils. his work is celebrated throughout the south and a new generation of black artists have been trained in the yamaguchi tradition.
